Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival - Thimphu Sky Palace
Welcome to Bhutan. Upon arrival, you are driven to Six Senses Thimphu (1.5 hours). Called 'Palace in the Sky,' the lodge is perched high above the valley floor with commanding views of the Buddha Dordenma. The architecture emphasizes vertical lines and spaciousness. After check-in, enjoy a wellness screening at the spa or a gentle walk in the surrounding apple orchards. Dinner features organic ingredients sourced from the lodge gardens.
Day 2: Thimphu Discovery
Start the day with yoga in the prayer pavilion. Then, hike to Talakha Monastery, a spectacular ridge-top goemba with 360-degree views of the Thimphu and Paro valleys. It's a peaceful spot often missed by tourists. Return for a late lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Pangri Zampa Lhakhang, a 16th-century monastic school for astrology. Schedule a private reading with an astrologer to learn what the stars hold for you.
Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha
Depart for Punakha, crossing the Dochula Pass. Your destination is Six Senses Punakha, lovingly nicknamed the 'Flying Farmhouse.' The lodge cantilever over rice terraces, creating a sensation of floating. The warmer climate here allows for a swimming pool—take a dip upon arrival. In the evening, enjoy drinks by the campfire while looking out over the valley lights.
Day 4: Punakha Valley
Morning meditation by the riverside. Then, visit the architectural masterpiece, Punakha Dzong, and cross the suspension bridge. In the afternoon, you can opt for white water rafting or a gentle hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Dinner is a farm-to-table experience, showcasing the rich agricultural produce of the Punakha valley.
Day 5: Punakha to Paro
Drive back west to Paro. Six Senses Paro is known as 'Stone Ruins,' located directly next to the ruins of a 15th-century fortress, Chudrab Goemba. The lodge views are directly of the Paro valley and the ruins. It's an atmospheric setting that connects you deeply with Bhutan's history. Check in and enjoy a treatment at the spa, which uses local stones and herbs.
Day 6: Paro Ruins & Culture
Explore the ruins next to the lodge with a private guide. Then, try your hand at archery, Bhutan's national sport, on the lodge's own range. Visit the National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong) to see ancient thangkas and artifacts. In the evening, the lodge can arrange a private butter lamp lighting ceremony at the nearby temple, a spiritual moment of reflection.
Day 7: Tiger's Nest
Embark on the hike to Tiger's Nest (Taktsang). Six Senses provides a supportive guide and a delicious packed lunch. You can take your time ascending, enjoying the pine forests. Upon reaching the top, visit the main temples. On your return, stop at Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples. Tonight, enjoy a Royal Bhutanese Menu feast to celebrate the end of your journey.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to Paro terminal. The Six Senses team bids you farewell as you board your flight, leaving with a renewed sense of well-being and happiness.
