Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Paro

Arrive at Paro International Airport where you will be met by your Amankora driver and guide. You will be whisked away to Amankora Paro, tucked into the pine forests of the Balakha village. The lodge architecture contrasts rustic elements with contemporary design. Upon arrival, enjoy a welcome tea and settling into your suite. In the evening, unwind with a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath infused with artemisia herbs to relax your muscles and mind, followed by a personalized dinner menu specializing in local or western cuisine.

Day 2: Thimphu Lodge

After breakfast, drive to Thimphu (1.5 hours) to the Amankora Thimphu lodge, modeled after a traditional Dzong fortress. Situated in a blue pine forest in the Motithang area, it offers a serene retreat. In the afternoon, visit the Buddha Dordenma, one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. Enjoy a private tour of the Textile Museum or simply disconnect in the lodge's peaceful library and living room, observing the monk prayers if scheduled.

Day 3: Punakha Lodge

Depart for Punakha, crossing the Dochula Pass with its 108 chortens. Descend into the lush Punakha valley to reach Amankora Punakha. The lodge is unique, built around a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse belonging to the Queen Mother. Cross a suspension bridge to reach the lodge. In the afternoon, visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, the winter residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot). In the evening, learn the art of Bhutanese archery or cooking with the lodge chefs.

Day 4: Gangtey Lodge

Journey east to the Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey). The Amankora Gangtey lodge overlooks the valley floor and the 17th-century Gangtey Goemba. This valley is a protected nature reserve. Upon arrival, enjoy a walk through the village or visit the Black-necked Crane Centre. The lodge offers breathtaking views from the floor-to-ceiling windows, perfect for spotting wildlife or simply admiring the changing light over the valley.

Day 5: Bumthang Lodge

Drive further east to Bumthang, the spiritual heart of Bhutan. The journey is visually stunning, passing through ever-changing vegetation and landscapes. Amankora Bumthang is located adjacent to the Wandichholing Palace, the birthplace of Bhutan's monarchy. The lodge is surrounded by an apple orchard and pear trees. In the evening, participate in a butter lamp lighting ceremony at a local temple arranged exclusively for you.

Day 6: Bumthang Exploration

Explore the sacred valley of Bumthang. Visit Jambay Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, and Kurjey Lhakhang, where Guru Rinpoche left his body imprint. Walk across the suspension bridge to Tamshing Lhakhang. Enjoy a special bush lunch organized by the lodge in a scenic location. In the evening, visit the Red Panda Brewery and Swiss Cheese Factory for a taste of local produce.

Day 7: Return West

Take a short domestic flight from Bathpalathang Airport back to Paro (weather permitting) to maximize your time, or enjoy the scenic drive back. Return to the comfort of Amankora Paro. Spend the afternoon exploring the National Museum of Bhutan or simply relaxing in the lodge's courtyard with a view of Drugyel Dzong.

Day 8: Haa Valley Excursion

Embark on a day excursion to the remote Haa Valley via the Chele La Pass (3,988m), the highest motorable road in Bhutan. The pass offers unparalleled views of Mt. Jomolhari and Jichu Drake. Descend into Haa to visit Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple) and Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple). Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the alpine scenery before returning to Paro.

Day 9: Tiger's Nest

Your journey culminates with a private guided hike to the Tiger's Nest (Taktsang Goemba). Start early to enjoy the trail in solitude. Amankora arranges a special breakfast or lunch at the cafeteria or a picnic spot. Reaching the monastery is a deeply moving experience. Celebrate your last night with a private dining experience, perhaps in the lodge's potato shed or by a bonfire, reflecting on your journey across the Kingdom.

Day 10: Departure

Your Amankora journey concludes. A private transfer takes you to Paro International Airport. Your team will ensure a smooth check-in for your flight home.
